Overview

History

Maple Leaf Montessori School was established in Woodbridge, Ontario in 1987 and is owned and operated by a three-generation Montessori family. In 2015, Founder Johanna Madeley and her husband Michael, relocated classes into our wonderful new heritage campus on Islington Ave. Located on a Vaughan City Heritage site, this new campus is surrounded by beautiful parkland ensuring students absorb the wonders of nature.

Our longevity has allowed us to prove the importance of a strong foundation in the early years. Students have graduated from and been accepted at such schools as De La Salle, St. Michael’s, Havergal, Country Day, St. Thomas of Villanova, etc. Many of our former students are now attending or have graduated from Universities in Guelph, London (Western), Toronto (York and U of T), Kingston (Queens) and England (Cambridge), to name a few.

Goals/Philosophy

Maple Leaf Montessori is working towards academic excellence as well as assisting each student in developing good working habits, responsibility for their actions and respect for the environment, their peers and their teachers. We believe children need to become self-regulated, self-directing individuals ensuring that they become responsible for themselves and their education.

The development of self-discipline, self-motivation, commitment and responsibility must exist as we are trying to create an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect. The goal is that our children become good citizens of the world.

Parent Participation

Parents are the most important people in each child’s life. By establishing a strong Parent-Teacher bond, we maximize all of the positive aspects of your child’s experience in Montessori.

Parent sessions and workshops are conducted throughout the year. These evenings give parents and teachers a chance to know each other as well as provide information on your child’s current and future programming. We also offer an extensive Parent Resource Library where families can access many excellent books on Montessori and Learning Pedagogies.
